Tutorial: GF Escalloped Apples

Who doesn't love escalloped apples? You? If you're a skeptic or happen to love the dish but think it's too difficult, then hold onto your hat. I've got a delicious, super easy, AND gluten free version.

This recipe is adapted from Rachel Ray's escalloped apple recipe on Food Network. I tweaked it a bit and made it even better. Proud? Why yes, yes I am.

Here's What You'll Need:
About 5 apples, the recipe calls for gala
3 tbs. butter
2 tbs. sugar (I switched to brown sugar)
2tbs. flour (I used Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free All Purpose Flour)
2 tbs. lemon juice

Here's What You'll Do:

Cut your apples into wedges.

Guess who gets the core? It's a doggie delicacy.

Combine the apples and butter in a saucepan over medium heat for 12 - 15 minutes until very tender.

Season with a sprinkle of salt.

Sprinkle the flour over the sauteed apples and toss to mix. Add the lemon juice and toss.

Add the brown (or granulated) sugar.

Sprinkle cinnamon over the apples and


See? Told you it was easy.

  1. Looks yummy! I haven't tried this before but there are lots of apples hanging around my crisper drawer so I should! But wait...is that a core in your saucepan? How did that sneak in there? :)
